Winter Hibernation...and... "Let Them Eat Cake!"

Those that know me personally, know that it is a fact that I tend to settle in and hibernate during the cold, winter months.  While I realize that this winter was nothing to complain about, I still did spend  a great deal of the time inside by the fire.  With the beautiful spring and the warmer weather, I have finally pulled myself out of hibernation and am gearing up for wedding season! With that, I apologize for the long lead time in between blog entries.  And now..."Let Them Eat Cake!

Wedding budget...what means the most to you?

In 2011, the average cost of a wedding in the United States was $27,000.  Some brides will spend that amount on decor and flowers alone.  Others cringe at that amount and are working hard to make everything fit under $10,000.

Regardless of how big or small your budget, it is most important to manage it and, by that I mean not only staying within your budget constraints but also by deciding what is most critical to you.  For some brides, it is the decor.  For some, the entertainment.

"Say yes to the dress..." it sets the tone...

Very often, newly engaged women ask me where they should start in the process of planning their wedding.  My advice is ALWAYS, start with the dress as it sets the tone of the event.  For example, a ball gown would not necessarily fit into a wedding on the beach.  Following are a few examples:

This Lazaro (one of my favorite designers) ball gown would suggest a formal setting; black tie optional.  A ball gown fits in perfectly with grand ballroom, dramatic linens and decor, perhaps a shameless display of ivory flowers accompanied by romantic candlelight and hints of gold or silver.

"Will You Marry Me?"

November kicks off "Engagement Season!" With the holidays around the corner, boyfriends the world over will be making that special purchase with romantic ideas of "popping the question" on Christmas or New Year's Eve or Valentine's Day.  To celebrate, I thought it would be fun to share some engagement ring history and fun facts.

  • The first well-documented use of a diamond ring to signify engagement was by the Archduke Maximilian of Austria in the imperial court of Vienna in 1477, upon his betrothal to Mary of Burgundy.

Traditions that ETM Events loves..

In order to make each wedding unique and significant to my clients, I ALWAYS suggest that they incorporate personal touches.  As in fashion, trends in weddings are always changing.  Fall weddings, for instance, are gaining in popularity and the season is becoming almost as busy as spring.

Here are some "old school" traditions (some with a few twists) that I encourage and LOVE:

1.  A SMALLER guest list.  Guest lists can always be a challenge.  Who do you invite?
